The Side-Effects Of Puppy Training

Having a new puppy in the house can be quite entertaining and irritating at the same time. Yes, they're cute and cuddly and playful, but they also chew your shoes, ruin your furniture, and let's not forget - pee on your carpet. Kids don't understand how frustrating this can be until they get older and have to start caring for their puppy themselves.

If cleaning up puppy pee and other messes, dealing with pet urine odors, and constantly replacing your shoes is starting to wear on your nerves, consider some of the following solutions.

Know what you are getting yourself into. Have clear reasons for getting a puppy and determine if you have the time to give it the attention and care it needs. If it is mostly for your child or children, consider whether they are ready to share in the responsibility of house training their pet, but don't forget to weigh in their happiness with the costs of more responsibility.

Bear in mind that if you are diligent at training, puppies will eventually learn. In the meantime, you may need to research odor removal products that specialize in pet urine odors. Make sure they are products that actually remove pet odors instead of just masking them with chemical agents, only to have them return.

Try the old 'rub their nose in it' trick. Who's to say if this really works, but at least it will make you feel better. It would be amazing if it actually did, considering the fact that most pets seem to like their own and other pet urine odors.

When you're shopping for odor removal products, avoid anything that is toxic and may cause harm to yourself of your puppy. As much as you don't like the thing at times, you'd hate to see it harmed.

Pick up some tips from the Internet, perhaps from a pet care blog site. Usually the people who are best qualified to say what works are those who've actually trained a puppy, or used a particular brand of odor removal products.

Enlist reinforcements. Don't get burned out because you're the only one caring for your puppy and cleaning up messes. Consider getting your children to help, make a game of this with rewards for the desired behavior to both your children and your puppy. Remember: this is just a phase. If all else fails, get rid of the puppy. This is the ultimate solution, but the price of breaking your children's hearts may be too high.
