How To Keep Your Website Safe From Search Engine Updates

As anyone in internet marketing has seen, Google will come out with search engine updates and it can affect you, regardless of what kind of site you have. Although these updates may have a huge effect on your Google page rank by changing your web traffic stream which means it will have a huge effect on the blog or branding strategies you've put a lot of time and effort into building, they're also important to the integrity of the internet. Love it or hate it, Google's search engine updates are attempting to create better web content.

Google makes changes to its search algorithm quite often, but a big change occurred in September, 2011. This change is known as Panda Update 2.5. At the time, Google released a statement that outlined the goal of its algorithm update. To paraphrase Google, the statement said that the update was part of their commitment to returning high-quality sites to Google users. It went on to say that nearly 500 hundred changes were made each year to their algorithms.

The Internet is riddled with spam, junk content and poorly written articles and posts. There have been numerous comparisons to the digital frontier as being a type of untamed Wild West. Panda 2.5 is like your grade school teacher taking a red pen and correcting your poorly written English test. However, instead of getting a D on 21st century literature, your brand or website suffers due to a decreased Google ranking and less traffic. While you might not be able to stop Google from tweaking its search algorithm, there are steps you can take to protect your website.

1. If you're writing blogs, you will want to use unique, fresh, high-quality content. Stay away from spun articles and article writer software. Update your blog every day. Keep your database fresh. Don't think of the internet as an information resource that is continually changing but think of it as a resource for creative, thoughtful and high-quality writing.

2. It is imperative to link to authority sites. While an initial nuisance, this adds credibility to your blog. Do you remember when you had to cite your sources for those history papers on the American Revolution? Think of the authoritative link as your number one source for the digital revolution.

3. Create an Internet presence. The best way to do this is through social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Your social media influence will help determine your overall Google rank.

Search engine updates are part of the Internet. Being flexible when these algorithm changes takes place ensures your site is safe and your ranking is protected.
