How To Avoid The Dangerous Habit Of Over Training

Getting started doing anything is tough. Even getting out of bed some days take a monumental amount of willpower. However, once you get going, it gets easier and easier. And if you are lucky, you'll reach a point where not doing that thing is actually tougher than doing it.

For those of you who have been exercising and working out, you know exactly what a wonderful feeling this is. You wake up, and you can't wait to hit up the gym or go on your morning run. The days you miss your workouts, you feel awful, and you can't wait to get back in the saddle again.

However, as with all good things, more is not always better. And when you do too much exercise, you run the risk of injury, which could wind you up back before you started. In this article, you'll learn about some of the common areas of over training, and how you can avoid them.

When lifting weights, it's important to not do too much. Sure, it can feel good to hit a new personal best, and put up more than ever, but stop and consider a cost risk analysis. How much are you actually benefiting from putting an extra ten or twenty pounds on the barbell? On the other hand, the risk is that you tear a muscle. And this takes a long time to heal, which means you'll be on the sidelines for quite a while. This is no fun.

If you are a runner, then you know that nothing feels better than a runner's high. It may feel like you can run forever. However, be careful. If you run too much, then you may become overheated. Because this can cause all kinds of complications, be careful. Don't do too much.

If you are trying to lose weight, it can be tempting to skip meals every once in a while. But if you go overboard, your body won't have any fuel or resources to rebuild itself after your workouts. This means it will start to metabolize your muscle mass to get energy. Do this long enough, and you'll look like you've been on a hunger strike in prison. Not an attractive look. So make sure to eat enough food to sustain your activities.

If it's really hot outside, you might want to skip your workout. Dehydration and heat stroke can sneak up on you when you least expect them. If the weather forecast says it's going to be hot, then consider working out in the morning or the evening. That way, you'll avoid waking up in the hospital wondering what just happened.

When you are injured, there's simply nothing you can do except to rest. No matter how much you'd like to get out there and go for a run or hit the gym, it will only make matters worse. Resting is sometimes your only option.

As you can see, there are plenty of things to be careful for when exercising. So long as you take your time and ease into things, you won't have anything to worry about.
