Avoid These Myths About Beauty And Keep Your Sanity

If you are trying your best to look your best, then you've got your work cut out for you. If you step into any drug store, you can see hundreds of thousands of different products all trying to make you look your best. If you look online, you'll find tons of articles telling you the latest secrets and some age old mysteries which are supposed to give you an edge in the world of fashion. It can quickly get downright confusing. However, believe it or not, there are some commonly held beliefs about beauty that simply aren't true. Once you get rid of these foolish ideas, you can start doing what works, and look your best.

One thing people believe is that the more you brush your hair, the better it will look. This is true up to a point, but you can easily overdo it. Sure, maybe a hundred years ago when people didn't have access to high technology shampoo and conditioners, they had to make do with what they had. So they sat in front of their mirror all night long and brushed their hair. Today, all you need to do is brush it until it looks good, and you'll be fine. Don't worry about counting strokes or anything like that.

If you are worried about shaving because you think your hair will grow back darker, don't worry. However, there is a bit of truth to this myth. If you shave an area that's exposed to sunlight, then it's likely bleached. That means the hair that first grows will be a little bit darker than the bleached hair, but not by much, and certainly not for long. The underlying, unbleached color of the hair will be the same color, so you've got nothing to worry about.

Another false belief about cutting hair is that it will make it grow faster. Hair growth is non linear, which means when it first comes out, it's growing pretty fast, but once it gets to a certain length, it starts to slow down. But if you cut it, it doesn't change any of these values. It may seem like it's growing faster because the difference between smooth skin and stubbly skin may be a lot. But it's only an illusion. Don't worry about it.

If you think that some kind of magic cream or formula can prevent stretch marks, think again. When you get pregnant, your skin stretches out quite a bit, and then after having the baby, the skin has to go back. There's pretty much nothing you can do to avoid this. So stop worrying about it.

There's one crazy belief that toothpaste will cure acne. I'm not sure where this started, but it seems pretty silly. Why not just use acne medication? It's designed to dry out your skin enough so the pores will open up and clear up. Tooth paste is supposed to make your teeth sparkle and give you minty breath. Notice that these are two completely different things?

If you think tanning is good for you, think again. Sure, the words "healthy tan" often appear together, but tanning is not healthy. It's simply your body's natural reaction to the sun. If you overdo it, your skin will get dried out, and start to look old before its time. You don't really want that, do you?

When you can avoid these silly myths, you'll have a lot more space in your brain to think about true beauty tips, like getting enough sleep and drinking enough water. Also, you might realize the biggest truth of all, that beauty comes from the inside.
